Chapter 18 - THE BUYER BEHIND THE BUYER

Victoria’s phone contained voice messages from Redline Strategic instructing her to provoke Daniel if he entered a store unexpectedly.
“He dresses like a nobody,” a consultant said. “If you catch him testing staff, make him look like an abusive owner.”
Victoria had known Daniel might visit.
She had not recognized him, but she had been primed to turn any confrontation into content. Her cruelty toward Lily was spontaneous; the edited release afterward was coordinated.
Payments from Redline began six months earlier.
Victoria pleaded guilty to making false statements during the internal investigation and agreed to cooperate. She still faced civil claims and did not regain her job.
The phone also revealed North Coast was not the ultimate buyer. Vane’s acquisition fund was financed by Meridian Crown Sovereign Partners, whose hidden investors included officials connected to Kivu Meridian’s suspended mine.
They wanted Aurelia’s ethical patents to relabel their stones and reopen global markets.
This transformed the dispute from ordinary takeover litigation into sanctions and anti-money-laundering investigations.
Federal agents searched North Coast. They recovered duplicate marking equipment, customer ledgers, and Redline’s original unedited recordings.
Vane was arrested for conspiracy, sanctions evasion, wire fraud, and evidence tampering. He denied knowing the fund’s beneficial owners.
Prosecutors could prove he ignored warnings, not yet that he understood every investor.
The proxy contest paused.
But Aurelia still faced the insurance claim, customer lawsuits, trust breach, and possible bankruptcy. Removing Vane did not repair the company.

Then investigators reopened Elise’s crash after finding a North Coast vehicle had followed her for forty miles.
The driver was a former paramedic named Owen Price—Jonah’s older brother.
