Chapter 6 - WHO STARTED THE CROWD

The protest looked spontaneous.
It was not entirely.
Forensics traced the original viral thread to an anonymous account created three months earlier.
Not directly linked to Vanessa.
Then promotional spending.
Several posts received paid boosts through a digital agency:
Northstar Social.
One of the same vendors under audit.
That was interesting.
Northstar’s account manager said Verity House had instructed them to “amplify public-interest discussion around executive ethics.”
Did Vanessa personally approve the Claire campaign?
He produced a Slack export.
VANESSA:
Push the marriage angle. Real women respond to betrayal.
ACCOUNT MANAGER:
Any legal concerns?
VANESSA:
We’re sharing public facts and opinion.
Then:
VANESSA:
Don’t mention the vendor audit.
There.
Not proof she ordered tomatoes.
No instruction for violence.
But she deliberately manufactured attention.
Then another message sent that morning:
VANESSA:
Need bodies outside HQ by lunch. Organic-looking.
The account manager arranged:
three paid local content creators,
two “relationship accountability” activists,
and a call for followers to gather.
Most protesters who came later were real people.
They believed the story.

Astroturf became actual outrage.
Vanessa did not control the crowd after she lit it.
