Prosecutors did not charge Robert with attempted murder.
No one serious suggested it.
The case centered on:

assault-related conduct,
reckless injury,
witness or evidence interference allegations tied to coaching Evan’s stories,
and conduct after surgery.
The exact charges depended on state law and proof.
Claire wanted the harshest possible version.
Grace stopped her.
“You want accuracy or maximum labels?”
Claire looked away.
“Accuracy.”
“Then stay there.”
The garage shove had caused the abdominal injury.
Robert admitted that.
The medical evidence supported blunt trauma consistent with the timing.
The lie afterward was documented.
The laundry-room assault had witnesses:
Claire,
Evan,
and physical findings.
The shoulder and wrist incidents were more complicated.
Evidence supported aggressive handling and false stories.
But some details rested mainly on Evan’s later recollection.
Prosecutors included what they could prove and used the rest as context where legally permitted.
Robert’s attorney argued he panicked because he feared losing his family.
Claire heard that phrase and felt sick.
He had feared consequences more than Evan’s pain.
Then investigators found one final piece.
The laundry room had no camera.
But the smart washer stored cycle and vibration alerts.
At 2:14 p.m., it registered a sudden impact while idle.
At 2:15, another.
Claire had entered at approximately 2:15.
The machine’s data could not show who hit what.
But it corroborated timing.
Then the surgical bandage manufacturer’s lot record showed something else.
The strip Robert claimed Evan “pulled loose himself” had adhesive damage consistent with force from the free end, not simple peeling.
A small fact.
