Ethan apologized to Natalie and the rest of the group for the remote incident.
Then to Claire.
She laughed bitterly.
“You’re apologizing for scaring me after finding me with Caleb?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I chose to scare you.”
Claire stared.
“You had every reason to be angry.”
“Anger is not permission.”
That sentence surprised her.
Ethan continued:
“I wanted you to feel powerless for ten seconds.”
Silence.
“That was wrong.”
Claire looked down.
Then:
“I made you look unstable before you did that.”
“Yes.”
