The archive request found Oliver’s twenty-one-year-old CONTINUITY folder, packed with crisis memos about strikes, recalls, executive illness, data breaches, and the old fire.
Contain before disclose.
Preserve payroll.
Prevent lender panic.
Delay attribution until facts stabilize.
Some policies were responsible crisis management. Others were moral shortcuts disguised as procedure.
One memo about Archie read:
If Flynn attribution reopened, risk to founder narrative substantial. Maintain settlement position unless original backups surface.
Another:
Edmund increasingly guilty. Do not permit remorse to destabilize cap table.
Lissa read it twice.
“You managed my father.”
Oliver answered:
“Someone had to when he was sick.”
“You managed what he was allowed to repair.”
“I prevented him from detonating the company during chemotherapy.”
Archie spoke quietly.
“By making the lie permanent.”
Oliver turned on him.
“You got to disappear. Some of us stayed and carried the consequences.”
Archie stood.
“My wife died in those consequences.”
Silence.
Oliver looked away first.
Then Lissa found the West Arbor entry.
Housing electrical warnings:
Escalation may trigger relocation cost and press. Treat as maintenance until failure probability exceeds operational threshold.
No engineer had signed the threshold.
It was an executive judgment.

Lissa closed the folder.
“You’re done.”
The board still required a vote.
Oliver knew.
He smiled without humor.
“You think removing me fixes the culture?”
“No.”
“Then why now?”
“Because leaving you in place teaches everyone the culture worked.”
That answer ended the meeting.
Oliver was suspended as operations chief.
He retained counsel.
Then he made his final strategic move.
Within hours, an anonymous package reached regulators and the press.
It contained evidence suggesting Archie had tampered with West Arbor electrical equipment after the fire.
Photographs showed him inside the damaged utility room.
A tool in his hand.
A report claimed traces of accelerant were found on his work gloves.
Headline drafts appeared online:
FORMER CONSTANCE CLAIMANT LINKED TO SECOND FIRE.
Lissa stared at the images.
Archie had entered the building after the fire to retrieve the sensor.
That part was true.
The accelerant report might not be.
Oliver had reframed another truth into a weapon.
