Chapter 11 - THE THING TYLER FINALLY SAID
On the second day, the psychologist met Tyler alone.
No parents.
Then with them.
She did not diagnose him dramatically.
She said his behavior showed:
deliberate boundary testing,
aggression,
low frustration tolerance,
reward from adult reactions,
and learned use of parental protection.
Then she asked Tyler:
“What happens when someone tells you no?”
Tyler shrugged.
“Mom fixes it.”
Jessica covered her mouth.
“What happens when Dad gets mad?”
Tyler answered:
“He yells at them.”
Mark looked down.
Then:
“What happens if you hurt someone?”
Tyler thought.
“They shouldn't make me mad.”
Emily, sitting at the edge as invited family support, felt cold.
Not because a ten-year-old was evil.
Because he was repeating a philosophy.
Then the psychologist asked:
“Who taught you that?”
Tyler shrugged.
“No one.”
Then:
“Dad says people need to toughen up.”
Mark closed his eyes.
Jessica started crying.
Tyler looked confused by her reaction.
Then he said the thing that broke the room.
“You guys laugh when I do stuff.”
Silence.
He was right.
At parties.
At home.
After pranks.
Brianna? No.
Wrong family. Keep.
Jessica laughed nervously.
Mark bragged.
Relatives rolled eyes.
Then everyone acted shocked when the behavior escalated.
