Chapter 12 - ELEANOR CHANGES THE TRUST
Eleanor Cole requested a private meeting with her estate attorney.
Then changed the bequest.
Removed the “substantial restored family relationship” condition entirely.
Sarah was furious.
“Why?”
Eleanor answered:
“Because I turned love into a financial test.”
Sarah stared.
Eleanor continued:
“And you started trying to pass it.”
The $1.5 million bequest would now be divided independently of custody.
Lily’s education trust remained.
Ben had no control over it.
Sarah had no control over it.
Independent trustee.
Good.
Then Eleanor asked to see Lily.
Lily agreed only if Ben came.
Sarah objected.
Eleanor said:
“Then I won’t see her.”
Sarah froze.
For the first time, her mother refused to make Ben disappear for family appearance.
At lunch, Eleanor asked Lily what she wanted for school.
Lily said:
“Same school.”
Room?
“Same room.”
Mother?
Lily looked at Sarah.
“I want visits.”
Then at Ben.
“I live with Dad.”
Eleanor nodded.
No pressure.
Sarah cried quietly.
Not because she lost money.
That leverage was gone.
