Chapter 9 - THE VIDEO SARAH RECORDED
Sarah had one strong piece of evidence.
A video.
Ben in the apartment kitchen.
Crying.
Hands over ears.
Saying:
“I can’t! I can’t! Too much!”
Lily stood nearby.
Sarah’s lawyer argued emotional dysregulation made him unsafe.
The video looked bad.
Then Rachel asked for the full recording.
Sarah resisted.
Court ordered preservation.
Full clip began seven minutes earlier.
Sarah had arrived without notice.
Started questioning Ben rapidly about:
school transfer,
medical insurance,
custody schedule,
specialist names.
Ben repeatedly said:
“One at a time.”
Sarah kept going.
Then:
“If you can’t answer these, how can you parent?”
Ben’s breathing changed.
Lily said:
“Mom, stop.”
Sarah continued.
Then Ben covered his ears.
“I can’t! I can’t! Too much!”
He walked into the bedroom.
Closed door.
Lily stayed in kitchen.
No threat.
No violence.
No abandonment.
Five minutes later Ben returned calmer.
Apologized to Lily for scaring her.
Then completed dinner.
The short clip showed incapacity.
The full clip showed:
overload,
self-removal,
recovery.
Still relevant.
But different.
Judge Ellen Price watched both.
Then asked Sarah:
“Why did you submit only the final forty-three seconds?”
Sarah answered:
“That was the concerning part.”
The judge replied:

“Context is also part.”
Sarah’s credibility took its first serious hit.
