Chapter 7 - CLAIRE TURNS ON GRANT
Claire lasted longer than anyone expected.
Then Mara found the money.
Grant had promised her seven percent of his future voting block after Evelyn’s death was recognized.
Not officially.
Through a side agreement.
Claire believed killing Evelyn would make her richer.
Grant believed Claire would stay loyal because she was implicated.
He was wrong.
When prosecutors showed Claire the GPS logs and conspiracy exposure, she asked for counsel.
Then began talking.
She admitted the family boarded the boat intending to force Evelyn to sign.
She admitted Henry said they would “solve the vote permanently” if Evelyn refused.
She admitted Grant took the phone deliberately.
She admitted she helped hold Evelyn.
Then came the hardest question.
“Did you intend for Evelyn to die?”
Claire cried.
“I didn’t think Dad would actually throw her.”
Evelyn read that statement later.
She did not know whether to believe it.
Then Claire added:
“But when she was in the water, Grant said not to turn around.”
That part was clear.
They saw Evelyn alive.
They heard her scream.
They left.
