Chapter 2 - ARTURO KNEW EXACTLY WHAT SHE MEANT

Most of the guests thought Elena had lost control.
Arturo knew she had finally taken it.
He climbed out of the pool dripping chlorinated water onto imported stone.
“Elena.”
She did not answer.
“Call whoever you texted.”
Noah clung to her side.
Elena handed him to her friend Claire Donnelly.
“Take him inside.”
Arturo snapped:
“He stays.”
Elena looked at him.
“No.”
That one word carried thirty years of history.
Lucía climbed out next.
Her makeup running.
“You shoved me in front of everyone.”
Elena stared.
“You dumped mud on my son in front of everyone.”
“I didn’t.”
“Sofia did.”
Lucía glanced at her daughter.
Sofia looked frightened now.
Elena noticed.
That mattered.
She turned to Sofia.
“Did your mother tell you to do that?”
Lucía shouted:
“Don’t interrogate my child!”
Sofia started crying.
Arturo cut in:
“This ends now.”
Elena’s phone rang.
Mara.
Elena answered.
“Yes?”
Mara’s voice was calm.
“I’ve initiated temporary holds where we have authority. Mercer Family Holdings distributions, Vale Management discretionary transfers, and the two shared reserve accounts.”
Arturo went white.
Lucía stared.
Elena asked:
“And the trust-controlled credit facilities?”
“Pending signatory verification. I can suspend outgoing discretionary transfers for review.”
“Do it.”
Arturo stepped toward her.
“You have no right.”
Elena ended the call.
Then looked at him.
“I have every right.”
He laughed, but fear had entered it.
“You think because your name is on paperwork, you own this family?”
“No.”
Elena’s voice stayed flat.
“I think because my money has been funding this family for six years, I get to stop.”
May you like
The patio went quiet again.
Even Lucía stopped shouting.
