Chapter 11 - THE REAL REASON VANESSA WANTED EMILY GONE
The laundry-room confrontation happened because Emily found the final ceremony script.
Not just the photography notes.
The script contained a new line before the vows:
Today Andrew and Vanessa begin a new family together.
Emily circled it with a pencil.
Then wrote:
WHAT AM I?
Vanessa found her holding the script.
They argued.
Emily said:
“I’m telling Dad.”
Vanessa panicked.
Not because the sentence was legally dangerous.
Because it exposed the belief behind months of edits.
Vanessa said:
“You always make everything about your mother.”
Emily answered:
“She is my mother.”
Vanessa snapped:
“She’s dead.”
That was when Emily tried to leave.
Vanessa grabbed her.
Emily shouted.
Vanessa slapped her.
Then tried to push her into the laundry room long enough to keep her away from Andrew until the ceremony started.
Vanessa later admitted:
“I thought if the ceremony happened, everything would settle down.”
Same mistake many adults make.
