Chapter 11 - RYAN'S PART
Ryan admitted finding the old account number.
But he denied using it.
Then he admitted something worse.
He had sent a photo of the divorce page to NorthHallAdmin.
Why?
The anonymous account asked:
Got any old bank numbers? We can use fake routing to test the fundraiser page without risking real money.
Ryan thought it was technical.
A sandbox.
A test.
He photographed the page.
Claire stared at him.
“You sent banking information to a stranger.”
“I didn’t think it worked anymore.”
“That does not make it safe.”
“I know.”
Ryan cried.
For the first time since the laundry room, he looked fifteen.
Not defiant.
Scared.
NorthHallAdmin used the information to create a destination token.
Whether the goal was theft or framing remained unclear.
The money never left the processor.
But the link created the appearance of misconduct.
Then the account disappeared.
Deleted.
Investigation continued.
Ryan’s school suspension was extended for:
harassment,
credential misuse,
unauthorized device access.
But the theft allegation was removed.
That mattered.
Claire refused to let him turn partial innocence into total innocence.
“You did not steal the money.”
Ryan nodded.
“You still hurt Ava.”
He looked down.
“You still lied to me.”
“Yes.”
“You still attacked Emma.”
His face crumpled.
“Yes.”
Then Emma asked whether Ryan could come home.
Claire said:
“Not yet.”
Emma nodded.
She missed him.
She feared him.
Both were true.
Then Ms. Parker sent Claire an audio file.
The original tablet call.
Not just the attack.
The five minutes before it.
Claire listened.
Emma and Ms. Parker had been discussing reading homework.
Then Ryan entered.
His voice:
Give me the tablet.
Emma:
I’m in class.
Ryan:
I need it.
Emma:
Mom said no.
Ryan:
You think because you had surgery you own everything?
Emma:
No.
Then something quieter.
Ryan:
You don’t know what it’s like when everybody thinks you’re the bad kid.
Emma:
I don’t think that.
Ryan:
Dad does.
Claire froze.
Emma had not mentioned Daniel.
Then Ryan said:
Dad told me Mom will always choose you now.
The attack happened thirty seconds later.

Daniel had been feeding Ryan’s resentment.
