Chapter 13 - LILY'S BOUNDARY

Diane asked to see Lily.

Claire said no.

Not forever.

Not now.

Ryan struggled.

“She’s still her grandmother.”

Claire looked at him.

“She hit her.”

Ryan closed his eyes.

There it was again.

Family title used as argument.

Claire continued:

“Being your mother did not give Diane the right to hide Laura. Being Lily’s grandmother does not give her immediate access after hurting her.”

Ryan nodded.

He hated it.

Accepted it.

Diane entered individual therapy.

She sent Claire a written apology.

No excuses.

I hit Lily because I panicked. I was trying to protect a lie, not a child.

Claire read it.

Then put it away.

Ryan asked:

“Does it help?”

“No.”

“Will you forgive her?”

“I don’t know.”

Fair.

Laura did not ask to meet Lily yet.

That impressed Claire.

She said:

“Ryan should figure out who I am before Lily has to.”

Good boundary.

The adults were finally learning them.
