Chapter 9 - WHAT CLAIRE TOOK BACK

The divorce took eleven months.
Claire did not destroy anyone.
She stopped carrying them.
Evelyn moved out.
Beth’s management role never existed.
David received fair marital assets but no trust property.
The forged signature issue became part of the civil settlement.
No one went to prison.
No empire collapsed.
The mansion remained in the Rose Mercer Family Trust.
Security rules changed.
No permanent guest access.
No family authority without written consent.
No inherited assumptions.
Beth apologized once.
Not publicly.
Privately.
“I hated that you could say no.”
Claire stared at her.
Beth continued.
“I thought because we were family, you shouldn’t be allowed to.”
That was the first honest thing she had ever said.
Claire did not forgive her immediately.
But she believed her.
Evelyn’s apology took longer.
She said:
“I lost control.”
Claire answered:
May you like
“You lost permission.”
Different thing.
