Chapter 1 - THE STREAM

Olivia Carter was already on the floor when Vanessa lifted another forkful of food to her mouth.
The dining room looked obscene in its perfection.
Crystal lights.
White linen.
Gold-rimmed plates.
A table crowded with roast beef, glazed vegetables, pastries, sauces, and desserts arranged for the Carter Table holiday livestream.
Olivia lay a few feet away, one hand pressed hard against her upper abdomen.
Her face was flushed.
Sweat clung to her hairline.
“Please…” she whispered.
Vanessa smiled into the phone mounted on a small handheld stabilizer.
Comments rolled too fast to read.
Olivia dragged herself a few inches closer.
“Please… stop eating. I can’t take this anymore.”
Vanessa glanced down.
Then lifted another bite.
“Oh, come on. Don’t ruin my stream.”
Olivia’s arm buckled when she tried to stand.
She fell back onto one side and curled inward.
The smell of butter and roasted meat made the nausea worse.
“Please… just stop… please…”
Vanessa stood.
Still livestreaming.
She walked closer and crouched enough to keep Olivia in frame.
“I want them to see exactly how pathetic you look.”
Olivia stared up at her.
Not because the insult surprised her.
Because Vanessa had said it naturally.
Like a line she had rehearsed.
Olivia pressed both hands to her stomach.
“Why are you doing this to me?!”
Vanessa straightened.
Her expression became almost peaceful.
“Because now you can’t stop me.”
The stream continued for another forty-two seconds before Olivia managed to knock a chair hard enough against the floor that someone in the kitchen heard.
A production assistant ran in.
Then everything changed.
Phone down.
Ambulance called.
Vanessa suddenly concerned.
“Olivia, breathe.”
Olivia looked at her from the floor.
“You were still filming.”
Vanessa whispered:
“I panicked.”
“No.”
“You don’t understand.”
“No.”
At the hospital, doctors treated Olivia for a severe gallbladder attack related to known gallstones. The episode was painful but non-catastrophic.
The meal had not caused the attack in that moment.
Vanessa eating had not created the pain.
The smell and nausea simply made it harder to tolerate.
That distinction mattered.
By midnight, Olivia was stable.
Then her manager, Jonah Reed, texted.
DO NOT OPEN SOCIALS YET.
Olivia stared at the message.
Too late.
She opened the Carter Table account.
A clipped version of the livestream already had 4.8 million views.
Title added by the platform’s automatic replay system:
SISTER DINNER MELTDOWN GOES OFF THE RAILS.
Olivia’s collapse was the thumbnail.
Then she saw the monetization panel.
Revenue generated in under six hours:

Her pain was already earning money.
