Evelyn had her own vulnerabilities.
Ethan knew them.
He counterattacked through the family trust.
Claim:
Evelyn was mismanaging assets and acting out of personal hostility.
He demanded independent review.
Evelyn agreed.
Claire was surprised.
“You’re not fighting?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because if I’m clean, review helps.”
The audit found Evelyn had made questionable decisions too.
A related-party loan to her brother.
A below-market lease to a charity she chaired.
Use of a company driver for personal errands.
Not catastrophic.
But not perfect.
Ethan seized on it.
“See? She punishes me for things she does herself.”
Again:
not completely wrong.
Evelyn repaid certain personal charges and corrected governance policies.
Then said publicly to the board:
“My son’s misconduct does not require me to be innocent of every mistake.”
That sentence took oxygen away from Ethan’s defense.
He needed hypocrisy.
Evelyn gave him accountability instead.

Evelyn had once guaranteed a $2 million line for an affiliate without full board documentation.
No loss occurred.
Still improper process.
She disclosed it.
Corrected it.
