Chapter 9 - CLAIRE MEETS HER SISTER

Claire saw Adrian first.
She cried.
Then she saw Evelyn.
And stopped.
Neither sister moved for several seconds.
Evelyn whispered:
“I’m sorry.”
Claire shook her head.
“No.”
“You told me to keep him safe.”
“I told you to keep the plan alive.”
“I married him.”
Claire looked at Adrian.
Then at the ring.
Then back at Evelyn.
Pain moved across her face.
Adrian said:
“Claire—”
She raised one hand.
“Not yet.”
Fair.
The truth had rescued her.
It had also detonated three lives.
Claire and Adrian had been engaged.
Evelyn had loved him first.
Adrian had married Evelyn without knowing it.
No legal filing could make that emotionally simple.
The merger vote was halted.
Malcolm was removed temporarily from Bennett Capital pending investigation.
The hidden twin documents triggered trust litigation.
Federal prosecutors pursued unlawful confinement, fraud-related conduct, obstruction, and false corporate disclosures.
They did not charge attempted murder because there was no evidence for it.
Malcolm’s defense attacked everything.
He claimed Claire voluntarily entered the medical facility during a breakdown.
Security contractors contradicted him.
He claimed Evelyn willingly impersonated Claire for personal reasons.
The threat messages contradicted that.
He claimed the merger ownership issue was a technical mistake.
Internal emails showed he knew about the twin clause years earlier.

The case became less about family drama.
More about records.
