Smoke residue and melted synthetic fibers matched the warehouse. Beneath Eleanor’s seven-stitch wing, technicians found a trace of dried blood. DNA belonged to Leonard Pike.

The patch had touched Leonard after he was injured.

Michael remembered crawling toward Leonard while the guard was still alive. He used the patch to press against a wound, then handed it to Thomas when Thomas pulled him free.

The evidence supported Michael’s presence but did not explain how Elaine obtained the patch.

Elaine finally admitted another omission. Eleanor gave it to her after Michael entered hiding. Years later, a lawyer instructed her to leave it to Rex only if Thomas returned or Arthur reopened the fire.

The lawyer was Wade’s current general counsel, Susan Crane.

Crane claimed she acted on Eleanor’s confidential instructions and never told Wade. Her billing records showed the meeting charged to a shell legal fund controlled by Meridian.

Meridian’s proposed purchase was no longer merely opportunistic. Its principals had managed secrets from the fire for years.

Rex faced his own consequences. June Bell filed a civil claim for the diner damage and emotional distress to staff. One customer alleged Rex’s group blocked her exit while filming.

Wade offered again to settle if Rex publicly accused Arthur of orchestrating the convoy.

Rex refused.

He returned to the diner, paid for the glass and damaged table, and apologized to June in front of the same customers he had entertained.

“You’re sorry because bigger men arrived,” June said.

“At first,” Rex answered. “Now I’m sorry because I made fear look funny.”

June accepted the payment, not the apology. “Those are different things.”

Rex understood.

That evening, Susan Crane requested immunity. She offered records proving Meridian was formed by Wade and Agent Voss eighteen years earlier.
