Chapter 11 - VANESSA'S COMPLAINT
Vanessa filed a formal retaliation complaint.
Why?
Because months before the affair exploded, she had questioned Claire’s access to Northshore data.
Two weeks later, Claire removed Vanessa from a project.
Claire said:
“Performance.”
Vanessa said:
“Retaliation.”
Emails showed Claire wrote:
Vanessa is becoming a problem.
Then:
Move her off anything Northshore-adjacent.
That looked bad.
Claire’s explanation:
Vanessa was confrontational and disrupting workflow.
Possible.
But another message to Adrian said:
She keeps sniffing around things that don’t concern her.
Worse.
The company concluded Claire had improperly influenced Vanessa’s assignment.
Not because of the affair alone.
Because Vanessa was close to discovering the conflict.
Claire’s role ended.
She was terminated for:
undisclosed conflict,
information-handling failures,
retaliatory management conduct.
