Chapter 12 - THE DIVORCE

Amanda filed.

No surprise.

No reconciliation arc.

Richard asked once.

She said no.

Not dramatically.

Simply:

“I can co-parent with someone I no longer trust as a husband. I cannot stay married to someone who built a second family using my silence as a funding source.”

The divorce accounting took months.

Richard agreed to reimburse a negotiated portion of the clearly affair-related household spending.

Not every dollar.

Some charges overlapped with ordinary expenses.

Some were ambiguous.

Some were clearly Brooke/ Tyler support.

The settlement reflected evidence, not rage.

Brooke’s apartment lease ended.

Richard began paying his own rent elsewhere.

The watch was sold.

Proceeds applied toward repayment.

Amanda found that satisfying in a small way.

Then stopped thinking about it.

The house stayed with Amanda where the law and title supported.

Ethan remained primarily there.

Richard received structured parenting time that expanded after demonstrating:

no hostile third-party exposure,

consistent focus on Ethan,

parenting work,

no using Tyler as replacement family.

Tyler remained with Brooke.

No contact with Ethan for a long period.

Then, under child-specialist guidance, a letter apology.

Tyler dictated:

I’m sorry I hit you. I thought you were taking something that was supposed to be mine.

Ethan was five by then.

He asked Amanda:

“What thing?”

Amanda said:

“Your dad.”

Ethan frowned.

“People aren’t things.”

Amanda almost laughed.

Children keep finding the cleanest sentences.

Then he asked:

“Do I have to forgive him?”

“No.”

Good.

No forced sibling fantasy.

They were not siblings.

Not biologically.

May you like

Not legally.

Just two children hurt by the same adult story.
