Richard’s misuse of the household account was messy legally.
He had card access.
Amanda funded it.
They were married.
Some jurisdictions treat household money differently depending on source, titling, and intent.
So Daniel separated:
marital spending,
authorized family expenses,
clearly personal affair spending,
expenses for Brooke,
expenses for Tyler,
and transfers potentially reimbursable in divorce accounting.
No dramatic fraud claim.
Precision.
Then one category stood out.
Richard had used the household account to pay Brooke’s rent through a bill-pay service.
To make it less obvious, he labeled the payee:
ARW PROPERTY SERVICES.
Amanda might have mistaken it for repairs.
That was concealment.
Then:
Ridgemont tuition became:
RGT EDUCATION.
Resort charges:
CLIENT TRAVEL.
Why client?
There was no client.
Richard had built a shadow ledger inside the household account.
Not for tax authorities.
For Amanda.
Then Daniel found a private spreadsheet on Richard’s laptop.
BROOKE MONTHLY.
Rent.
School.
Food.
Car.
Travel.
Funding source column:
HH.
Household.
At bottom:
Need bonus + HH until transition complete.
Transition.
Richard planned to keep using Amanda’s money until he formally left.
Then switch to his own income.
Amanda stared.
“He budgeted the affair on my money.”
Daniel nodded.
Then:
“And assumed you wouldn’t look.”
That hurt more.
Richard had weaponized Amanda’s trust in administrative delegation.
Then Amanda found a note:
A won’t notice under 10k monthly.
She read it twice.
Not:
Amanda agrees.
Not:
Amanda can afford it.

That sentence became the financial core of the divorce.
