Chapter 10 - DANIEL'S DEFENSE
Daniel hired Lauren Pierce.
His defense had four parts.
First:
Claire knew extensive wedding media existed.
True.
Second:
Claire agreed to interviews and family storytelling.
True.
Third:
Field House had not publicly released the series.
True.
Fourth:
Daniel believed Claire would consent once she understood the opportunity.
Possible.
Then Lauren made the strongest argument.
“No completed series contract binds Claire.”
Also true.
Claire had stopped the process before signing the full release.
No network had aired her private life.
No irreversible publication had happened.
Grace told Claire:
“That limits damages.”
Claire felt almost insulted.
“I had to cut my wedding dress open in front of two hundred people to stop him.”
“I know.”
“But legally I should be grateful he hadn’t finished?”
“No.”
Grace looked at her.
“Legally, we measure what happened, not what might have happened.”
Daniel had betrayed trust.
Manipulated context.
Misrepresented consent.

But Claire discovered it before the worst commercial use occurred.
That mattered.
