Child abuse and neglect.
Witness coercion.
Evidence tampering.
Fraud-related conspiracy tied to guardianship and trust reimbursements.
Forgery-related charges concerning Lauren’s letters.
Grant faced additional fraud counts connected to Pathway Family Solutions.
No kidnapping across state lines.
No attempted murder.
No bodies in pools.
The real crimes were enough.
The prosecution also had to handle Michael carefully.
Defense attorneys wanted to make him the hidden cause.
They subpoenaed:
anger-management records,
old divorce filings,
Lauren’s complaints,
the wall video,
text arguments.
Michael’s attorney advised fighting some requests.
Michael refused where privacy law allowed disclosure.
“Let them see it.”
His lawyer warned:
“It will make you look bad.”

That answer helped.

successful co-parenting improvements before Lauren’s death.
Not sainthood.
Change.
That mattered more.
The real crimes were enough.
Rebecca’s attorney built a strong emotional defense.
She believed Emily was unsafe with Michael.
She relied on Lauren’s historical complaints.
She panicked when Emily tried to leave.
She did not personally profit yet.

Then prosecutors showed:

Belief did not explain everything.
Grant’s defense was colder.

Referral commissions were disclosed.

He never submitted the final reimbursement package.

He said he panicked after Rebecca said Michael was coming.
