Chapter 6 - CURTIS'S FIRST GOOD DAY

Hospital labs showed:

mild dehydration,

elevated glucose,

no stroke,

no infection,

no obvious head bleed.

Medication interaction and dosing error remained likely contributors.

The next morning Curtis was clearer.

He remembered:

Rachel,

Maisy,

Theo.

He remembered chasing them only in fragments.

He cried.

“I scared her.”

Rachel said nothing for a moment.

Then:

“Yes.”

Curtis covered his face.

“Did I hurt them?”

“No serious injury.”

That was not the same as no harm.

Then Rachel asked:

“Dad, did you sign something with Nathan about the back land?”

Curtis frowned.

“Maybe.”

“What?”

“He said it was to see what it was worth.”

Rachel looked at Nathan.

Nathan interrupted:

“That’s not fair. We went over it.”

Curtis snapped:

“Stop talking.”

Good.

Then:

“Did I sell it?”

Rachel answered:

“You signed an option.”

Curtis looked confused again.

“What option?”

Nathan’s face tightened.

Rachel saw it.

The question was no longer just:

Was Curtis confused today?

How clear was he when he signed?
