Chapter 7 - THE NOTARY VIDEO

The notary kept a video record.
Good practice.
Curtis sat at his kitchen table.
Nathan beside him.
Stonebridge attorney across.
The notary asked:
“Mr. Morgan, do you understand this document gives Stonebridge the right to purchase the rear acreage under the stated terms?”
Curtis answered:
“Yes.”
“Are you signing voluntarily?”
“Yes.”
“Has anyone forced you?”
“No.”
Clear.
Then the attorney asked:
“You understand the $75,000 is non-refundable option consideration?”
Curtis paused.
Then looked at Nathan.
Nathan said:
“It’s the deposit we discussed.”
Curtis nodded.
“Right.”
Not perfect.
Not proof of incapacity.
Then another moment.
Curtis asked:
“Will Danny still be able to hunt there?”
Everyone went quiet.
Nathan answered:
“Dad, Danny’s gone.”
Curtis blinked.
Then:
“Right. Sorry.”
Rachel stopped the video.
There.
A cognitive slip.
Same dead son.
Same confusion.
Five weeks before the woods.
Nathan said:
“He corrected himself.”
Rachel answered:
“After you corrected him.”
Nathan snapped:
“You can’t invalidate every decision because a grieving old man says his dead son’s name.”
Strong argument.
Painful.

Potentially true.
The issue required more than one mistake.
