Court-appointed evaluator Dr. Naomi Grant visited Rachel’s home.
Clean.
Ordinary.
Food accessible.
No staged abundance.
Sophie had:
snack drawer,
fruit bowl,
meal schedule.
Then Dr. Grant visited Margaret.
Margaret prepared perfectly.
Full refrigerator.
Fresh produce.
Protein.
Sophie’s room unchanged.
Then Dr. Grant noticed tape marks on pantry shelves.
Old adhesive.
Margaret said:
“Labels.”
Then Sophie’s bathroom scale.
Not suspicious alone.
But beside it:
a notebook.
Margaret grabbed it too late.
Weight records.
Monday entries.
SOPHIE — 71.4
SOPHIE — 70.8
SOPHIE — 69.9
Then notes.
BETTER.
TOO MUCH AFTER WEEKEND.
Rachel’s stomach turned when she saw copies.
Margaret’s lawyer argued:
monitoring health.
Dr. Grant asked:
“Why is weight loss marked ‘better’ when the child was already below expected growth?”
Margaret had no good answer.
Then one line:
RACHEL FEEDS HER JUNK — CORRECT MONDAY.
Correction.
That word destroyed the innocent framing.
