Chapter 4 - THE DIVORCE FOLDER
The divorce folder Gavin threw at Sabrina was not just a petition.
It contained:
a proposed marital settlement,
a mutual release,
a property schedule,
a confidentiality clause,
and an acknowledgment that each spouse had fully disclosed assets.
Sabrina’s lawyer, Rachel Kim, reviewed the papers the next morning.
She looked up.
“Do not sign this.”
“I wasn’t planning to.”
Rachel tapped the property schedule.
“This lists the house as marital residence subject to negotiated allocation.”
“It’s separate property.”
“I know.”
Then the next line.
Sable Ridge Consulting LLC:
value to be determined.
Sabrina frowned.
“That’s mine too.”
“Premarital?”
“Started before marriage. Growth partly during marriage.”
Rachel nodded.
That meant the legal treatment could be more complicated.
Separate property could have marital components depending on contributions, appreciation, and jurisdiction.
No magical:
mine means untouchable.
Then Rachel found the more interesting clause.
Gavin proposed:
he would waive any claim to Sable Ridge
if Sabrina waived claims against Pierce Advisory Holdings LLC.
Sabrina stared.
“What is that?”
Rachel looked at her.
“You tell me.”
“I’ve never heard of it.”
That changed the meeting.
Public records showed Pierce Advisory Holdings had been formed eight months earlier.
Owners:
Gavin Pierce, 60 percent.
Charlotte Gable, 40 percent.
Sabrina went cold.
“What does it own?”
Rachel answered:
“We need discovery.”
