One forgery charge failed.
Another insurance-related theory did not convince the jury.
Reality remained imperfect.
Ashley pleaded guilty separately to financial crimes, evidence tampering, and obstruction-related conduct.
Her cooperation reduced her sentence.
Emma did not object publicly.
She also did not forgive Ashley.
At sentencing, Ashley turned toward Emma.
“I am sorry.”
Emma said nothing.
The judge instructed Ashley to face forward.
Michael never apologized.
His statement blamed pressure.
Claire’s estate.
Emma’s distrust.
Ashley’s manipulation.
Corporate politics.
Everyone.
The judge called that absence of accountability relevant.
Michael received a lengthy prison term.
Emma expected relief.
Instead she went home and cried for three hours.
Justice did not return the marriage she thought she had.
Did not erase falling.
Did not give Noah a safe father.
Did not restore twenty-nine lost years with Hayes.
