Richard’s criminal case did not depend on proving he had a fully developed murder plan.

The law did not need a body to recognize danger.
Richard’s defense argued:
He was trying to move Evelyn away from clinical areas because she was disruptive.
That explanation collapsed under one question:
“Why a locked decommissioned crematory corridor?”
Richard had no credible answer.
He eventually accepted a negotiated plea to serious felony-level conduct under the available charging framework.
