The board opened a governance review.
Not a family trial.
They evaluated:
Claire’s performance,
Ryan’s conflicts,
the staged dinner,
succession documents.
Ryan defended himself.
He had no direct financial benefit from the trust.
True.
He had not harmed Daisy.
True.
He had not forged anything.
True.
But he had knowingly participated in a plan designed to provoke Claire before a board meeting.
That mattered.
The board voted to amend the alternate-steward mechanism.
Ryan was removed.
Replacement:
an independent professional manager chosen by the board.
Claire remained steward.
But with new requirements:
quarterly reporting,
budget review,
governance coaching.
