Chapter 7 - RYAN'S BEST DEFENSE
Ryan did not admit to trying to steal the sanctuary.
His argument was more careful.
Claire had been overwhelmed since Helen died.
She worked full time.
She was grieving.
She took Daisy everywhere.
She was fighting with Linda constantly.
Ryan said:
“I thought you were taking on too much.”
Claire answered:
“So you staged my pet’s death?”
“I didn’t stage it.”
“You knew.”
“Yes.”
“You let it happen.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
He swallowed.
“Because Mom said the board needed to understand what you’re like when things go wrong.”
There it was.
Not greed alone.
Doubt.
