Chapter 12 - NOAH SPEAKS

Noah Mercer surprised everyone.
At seventeen, he had heard enough.
He asked Rachel if they could talk.
“I don’t want Emma thinking I took something from her.”
Rachel said:
“You didn’t.”
“My grandma keeps acting like I’m the real heir.”
“She’s not your grandma.”
“Feels like everybody’s grandma at this point.”
Rachel laughed despite herself.
Then Noah said:
“I like farming. Maybe I’ll work there. But I don’t want to be picked because I’m a boy.”
That sentence reached Mark.
Because Noah said it to him too.

Mark listened.
