Chapter 9 - ELENA LEAVES
Elena did not go home after discharge.
She stayed with her friend Rachel.
Daniel asked to come.
She said no.
He respected it.
For three days.
Then arrived uninvited.
Rachel did not let him in.
Daniel stood outside holding flowers.
Elena almost laughed.
Another reset.
She went to the door but stayed inside.
“What do you want?”
“To talk.”
“We’ve talked.”
“I’m losing my wife.”
Elena stared.
“You started losing me every time you told someone a different version of what happened to my body.”
Daniel cried.
“I was scared.”
“So was I.”
“Of Mom?”
“Of both of you.”
That hit him.
Then Elena said:
“I need you to leave.”
He did.
No argument.
That was the first useful thing he had done.
Meanwhile Vivian began calling relatives.
She said Elena was manipulating doctors, turning Daniel against family, exaggerating an accident.
But the family response was different this time.
Margaret Hale contradicted her.
Susan did too.
Michael did.
The old certainty fractured.
Then Vivian called Elena directly from another number.
“You have no idea what you’re doing to Daniel.”
Elena answered:
“Neither did you.”
Then hung up.
Grace Bennett, Elena’s attorney, advised documenting contact.
No revenge messages.
No threats.
Let evidence work.
Then one cousin sent Elena screenshots.
Vivian had written:
If Elena tells them about the wrist too, Daniel could lose everything.
Elena stared.
Why would Daniel lose everything?
His job?
No.
His marriage?
Likely.
Then another message:
He signed those forms.
Elena froze.

She had known Daniel was lying on official paperwork.
