Chapter 13 - THE REVENGE SHE DIDN'T EXPECT

Emily did not sue Margaret for millions.
She filed:
animal-cruelty complaint,
civil claim for veterinary costs and property-related damages,
protective no-contact boundaries regarding Buddy.
Buddy’s veterinary exam showed:
stress,
mild aspiration concern ruled out,
no lasting injury.
Lucky.
Margaret accepted a negotiated misdemeanor resolution with:
fine,
community-service restrictions not involving direct animal handling,
mandatory behavioral counseling.
No cartoon prison term.
The real revenge happened socially.
Not because Emily orchestrated it.
Donors withdrew from Margaret’s personal events.
Animal-rescue groups stopped inviting her.
Magazine profiles disappeared.
She had built status from appearing compassionate.
The image collapsed because people saw contempt underneath it.
Emily did not need to destroy the mask.
