Chapter 9 - EMILY'S OWN ANGER

Emily wanted Margaret removed immediately.
Susan Bell refused.
“Process.”
Emily snapped:
“She threw my dog into a lake.”
“Yes.”
“She used the charity to lie about it.”
“Yes.”
“Then what are we waiting for?”
“A vote based on governance.”
Emily hated that.
Then Susan asked:
“Did you shove your mother?”
Emily paused.
“Yes.”
“Did you threaten her?”
“I said she’d regret it.”
“Any physical retaliation?”
“No.”
Good.
Then:
“You cannot turn this board process into revenge.”
Emily stared.
“It is revenge.”
“No. It can feel like revenge. It cannot be governed like revenge.”
That distinction saved the case.
Emily stepped back from the investigation.

She remained witness.
Not investigator.
