Chapter 12 - LINDA FINALLY CHOOSES

Linda had spent decades choosing peace.
Meaning:
Robert.
Then she found a box of old contracts.
Emily’s youth sponsorships.
Robert had taken management fees from several.
Legal because he was guardian and coach.
But one account showed prize money intended for Emily’s training fund used partly for:
gym rent,
Jason travel,
family expenses.
Emily stared.
“Did you know?”
Linda cried.
“Yes.”
“How much?”
“Not all.”
“Enough.”
Linda nodded.
Why never tell?
“Your father said it was family money.”
There again.
Family money.
Family sacrifice.
Always flowing one direction.
Then Linda did something she had never done.
She gave records to Maya.
Robert found out.
Exploded.
“You’re siding against your son?”
Linda looked at him.
“We have two children.”
Robert laughed bitterly.
“One of them wants to destroy everything.”
Linda answered:
“No.”
Then:
“One of them finally stopped letting you decide what everything means.”
Robert stared.
May you like
Linda’s hands shook.
But she did not take it back.
