Six months later, Victoria asked Claire to lunch.

Claire agreed.
Victoria said:
“I’m sorry the banquet got out of control.”
Claire waited.
“That is not an apology.”
Victoria exhaled.
“I’m sorry I touched you.”
“Keep going.”
Victoria looked irritated.
Then forced herself.
“I’m sorry I tried to make you eat something you told me you could not eat.”
Claire nodded.
“And?”
“I’m sorry I had you removed.”
“Locked in.”
Victoria looked away.
“Yes.”
Silence.
Then Victoria said:
“But I still think you overreacted about the hotels.”
