Chapter 11 - THE ALLIANCE BREAKS
Glen and Clara turned on each other.
Fast.
Predictably.
Glen accused Clara of manipulating the transition plan.
Clara accused Glen of cowardice.
She said he wanted:
the new house,
the affair,
the emotional support,
but still wanted Rachel to remain the “good mother” who made everything easy.
He denied it.
Then Clara produced messages.
Glen:
Rachel will fight at first.
Clara:
She fights everything she didn’t choose.
Glen:
She’ll calm down when she sees Ariel happy.
There it was again.
Ariel used as solvent.
Then Glen produced Clara’s own messages.
Clara:
Once Ariel has a room here, Rachel can’t pretend this is temporary.
Both had participated.
No innocent mastermind.
No single seducer.
Then the property financing became unstable.
Glen’s separation reduced his borrowing profile.
Clara’s income alone could not comfortably support renovations.
They considered selling.
Rachel felt satisfaction.
Then stopped herself.
Bramble Ridge was not hers.
Its failure would not repair her marriage.
Revenge by watching property values was still letting them occupy her mind.
She asked Daniel not to update her on the sale unless legally relevant.
That helped.
Then Clara filed a civil claim alleging Rachel’s public statements damaged her reputation.
Rachel had made no public statements.
Only court filings.
Family gossip came from birthday guests.
The claim went nowhere.
Then Clara tried to contact Ariel through a gift.
A dollhouse.
Miniature version of a blue-gray suburban home.
Rachel stared at it.
Bramble Ridge.
Daniel told her:
“Photograph. Preserve. Do not give it to Ariel.”
The court had prohibited indirect contact.
The gift became evidence of boundary violation.
Clara’s access restrictions hardened.
One dollhouse.
