Chapter 9 - GLEN'S COUNTERATTACK
Glen hired aggressive counsel.
He stopped apologizing.
That hurt less than Rachel expected.
Maybe because open conflict was easier than soft lies.
His argument:
The Bramble Ridge house was purchased with separate and Clara-controlled funds.
Rachel had no ownership interest.
Planning for separation was not misconduct.
Copying family documents was preparation for custody litigation.
The affair began after the property purchase.
No trust funds were used.
Much of that was true.
Daniel told Rachel:
“Do not lose discipline because the other side has facts.”
She nodded.
The affair did not make every action unlawful.
The house itself was theirs.
Ugly.
But theirs.
Then Glen sought temporary joint custody of Ariel.
Rachel opposed unsupervised transitions at first because Clara had struck Ariel.
That was the key safety fact.
Not infidelity.
Not secret planning.
Glen’s counsel argued:
one slap,
no injury,
high-conflict context,
Clara would not be present.
Reasonable issue for court.
Rachel hated that reasonableness could exist inside betrayal.
Then the judge imposed a temporary structure:
Glen parenting time,
Clara excluded,
no Bramble Ridge visits pending review,
no discussion of adult litigation with Ariel.
Not total victory.
Not defeat.
Then Glen tried another tactic.
He alleged Rachel was coaching Ariel to repeat:
Daddy’s there.
Rachel’s stomach turned.
The child interviewer handled it carefully.
Ariel was not repeatedly questioned.
She described only:
Clara hit me.
Daddy made blue square.
Daddy and Clara had papers.
Mommy got mad.
No adult conclusions.
Good.
Then Glen’s allegation backfired.
Because building-security footage showed Ariel entering the pool house before Rachel knew anything.
The child had genuinely witnessed the clue.
Still, Daniel warned:
“Do not celebrate. Ariel is not your evidence weapon.”
Rachel agreed.
She stopped discussing the case around her.
Then Glen sent one message through the parenting app:
You’re turning our daughter against me.
Rachel answered only:
I will follow the court order and the parenting plan.

Nothing else.
That silence was its own revenge.
