Chapter 9 - THE FIRST RAID

Police raided warehouse one.
Empty.
Warehouse two.
Records burned in metal bins? No graphic; fine, papers.
Abandoned computers.
Zip ties.
Mattresses.
Evidence of illegal confinement.
No people.
Warehouse three.
Fresh tire marks.
Laura’s handbag.
Daniel’s phone.
No Laura.
Then Victor noticed a delivery label.
BLUE HARBOR PET SUPPLY.
Marcus stared.
“Boss.”
Victor’s face darkened.
Blue Harbor was one of Voss’s shell companies.
The name connected to Victor’s ugly joke in the mall.
Fish food or the dogs.
Ryan noticed.
“What?”
Victor said:
“Voss used to move cash through pet-supply wholesalers.”
“Why did you say fish food and dogs to the kid?”
Victor looked at him.
“Because my men were panicking.”
“That’s your answer?”
“I wanted them listening to me, not reacting around a terrified child.”
Ryan frowned.
Victor continued:
“If they think I’m joking, they stay controlled.”
It was twisted.
But functional.
Then Marcus admitted:
“It worked.”
Ryan looked at both of them like they were insane.
Reasonable.
Then Blue Harbor’s warehouse address appeared.
Across state lines.
Voss was moving Laura there.

And Daniel?
Unknown.
