Chapter 11 - JULIA AND VANESSA

Vanessa Cole came to the mansion.
No lawyers at first.
Bad idea.
She defended her work.
“I was here every day.”
Grant answered:
“You charged twenty-two thousand dollars for family coordination.”
“I coordinated twelve staff.”
“During seven weeks.”
“Yes.”
Then Vanessa said:
“Julia was drowning.”
Grant looked at his wife.
That complicated the room.
Vanessa continued:
“You were gone. Press camped outside. Ethan hated her. Ben screamed for Molly. She slept three hours a night.”
Julia began crying.
Real.
Then:
“She asked me to help.”
Grant said:
“At premium rates.”
Vanessa answered:
“I gave up clients.”
Maybe true.
Then Rachel later found that Vanessa’s company lost roughly $40,000 of other work during the period.
So not every dollar was opportunism.
Still, markup was high.
Then Vanessa admitted:
“I told Julia the boys needed to look like they required supervision if the trust was going to pay for full support.”
Grant’s jaw tightened.
“Look like?”
Vanessa corrected:
“Document. I meant document.”
May you like
Maybe.
Words matter when money follows behavior.
