Chapter 8 - MARCUS CHANGES SIDES

Marcus Reed had been Grant’s security chief for three years.
Why did he restrain Ethan?
Because Julia ordered him to keep the dinner calm.
He had seen Ethan charge.
He reacted.
Then Grant asked:
“Did you know she hit Ben first?”
Marcus looked ashamed.
“I saw the second slap.”
“Why did you hold Ethan instead of stopping Julia?”
“She was my principal.”
“Meaning?”
“After you disappeared, my reporting line moved to Mrs. Whitmore.”
Grant stared.
Hierarchy.
Then Marcus produced security logs.
Julia had changed access permissions.
Molly:
revoked.
Grant’s brother:
limited.
Ethan’s grandparents:
appointment only.
Vanessa:
unrestricted.
Then a notation:
NO UNSCHEDULED CONTACT WITH CHILDREN WITHOUT MRS. WHITMORE APPROVAL.
Grant asked:
“Why?”
Marcus said:
“She said the boys needed stability.”
Again.
Stability meant fewer competing adults.
May you like
Fewer witnesses.
More control.
