Chapter 11 - THE FAMILY MEETING

Rachel agreed to one meeting.
Same dining room.
Different seating.
She refused to sit at the same chair where Mason had spit in her food.
Margaret looked irritated.
Rachel placed copies of the refinance statement on the table.
Then her payment spreadsheet.
$134,920.
Eric stared.
Lauren crossed her arms.
Derek said:
“So what? You want reimbursement?”
Rachel answered:
“No.”
Everyone paused.
She continued:
“I gave the money. I’m not pretending it was a loan after the fact.”
Margaret looked relieved.
Then Rachel said:
“But I’m not making another payment.”
The relief disappeared.
Lauren snapped:
“You’re really doing this over dinner?”
Rachel looked at her.
“No.”
She tapped the refinance document.
“I’m doing it because you all made financial decisions with my money without giving me the information.”
Derek said:
“It wasn’t your money once you gave it.”
Rachel nodded.
“Exactly.”
Then:
May you like
“And tomorrow’s payment isn’t yours because I haven’t given it.”
Silence.
