Chapter 14 - THE POLICE UNIFORM
Months later, Lily saw Officer Daniels at a school safety event.
She froze.
Natalie felt her hand tighten.
Daniels noticed.
He did not approach.
Instead he crouched across the room and waved once.
Lily whispered:
“Is he taking someone?”
“No.”
“Why is he here?”
“To talk about safety.”
Lily watched.
Then Daniels let children inspect a police cruiser.
Lights.
Radio.
Back seat.
Lily did not go.
That was okay.
At the end, Daniels walked past.
He said:
“Hi, Lily.”
She hid behind Natalie.
Then peeked out.
“Hi.”
