Chapter 5 - THE OPTION AGREEMENT

Melissa had more at stake than Natalie realized.

Developer:

Blue Oak Communities.

Proposed project:

luxury townhomes.

Evelyn had signed a nonbinding introduction agreement with Blue Oak.

If the sale closed:

Evelyn’s consulting company would receive a success fee.

$95,000.

Not illegal by itself.

The fee had been disclosed to Blue Oak.

Not to Natalie.

Melissa was also listed as:

community outreach consultant.

Potential fee:

$28,000.

Now the family pressure made sense.

Natalie asked:

“You were going to get paid if Lily’s land sold?”

Melissa snapped:

“For doing work.”

“What work?”

“Neighbor meetings. Local coordination.”

“Did you tell me?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because you would’ve made it about conflict.”

May you like

Natalie laughed.

“It is a conflict.”
