Chapter 14 - EMMA RETURNS TO THE FLOOR

Rachel stopped training for six weeks.

Not because Emma was hurt.

Because Rachel was afraid of herself.

The image kept returning:

dumbbell in hand.

Arm back.

Tyler’s face.

What if Daniel had been slower?

That question frightened her more than Tyler.

Her coach, Monica Bell, said:

“You don’t have to pretend that anger made you strong.”

Rachel stared.

“It did.”

“For one second.”

Then:

“And almost made you stupid.”

Rachel laughed despite herself.

True.

She started training again.

Emma stayed with supervised childcare across the lobby.

Clear glass wall.

Locked gate.

No free-weight access.

One afternoon Emma pointed toward Rachel deadlifting.

“Mama!”

Rachel smiled.

Finished the lift.

Set the bar down under control.

No slam.

Emma clapped.

Then Tyler’s old edited clip appeared in Rachel’s social-media memories.

She deleted it.

Not because it never happened.

Because she did not need to watch herself at her worst every year.

The full footage existed in court records.

Truth did not require self-punishment.
