Chapter 7 - THE BLOCKED NUMBER
Rebecca denied blocking Lily.
Daniel showed the device log.
She changed her argument.
“I was protecting Hannah from family drama.”
“Hannah didn’t ask.”
“She was already stressed.”
“Hannah decides that.”
Rebecca’s expression hardened.
“You sound like Lily.”
Daniel replied:
“Maybe I should have listened to Lily.”
That silenced her.
Then Hannah disclosed why Rebecca’s behavior escalated.
When Lily’s email finally reached her, Hannah answered.
She told Lily:
I believe you.
Three words.
Rebecca saw the message on the shared tablet.
The first formal dinner happened the next night.
Hannah did not recognize the connection then.
Now she did.
Rebecca was not only recreating old household rules.
She was punishing Hannah for validating Lily.
Rebecca said:
“That is ridiculous.”
But the timeline continued.
Second Lily email.
Second dinner.
Lily suggested Daniel deserved to know.
The following week Rebecca assigned Noah to “guest greeting.”
Then Hannah told Rebecca:
“I will tell Daniel when he comes home.”
Two days later, the glass incident happened.
Was Rebecca trying to injure Hannah?
No evidence.
The tray fell from Hannah’s hands.
But Rebecca’s response mattered.
Hannah was hurt.
Rebecca told her:
“You made the mess. You finish it.”
No gloves.
No rest.
Then she took the urgent-care sheet.
The abuse was not a plot to injure.
It was a refusal to let injury interrupt obedience.
Then Daniel asked Noah:
“Did Grandma ever tell you not to tell me?”
Noah looked terrified.
Daniel immediately softened.
“You’re not in trouble.”
Noah whispered:
“She said you get sad when Mom complains.”
Daniel’s chest tightened.
Rebecca had made his emotions another control tool.
Then Noah added:
“She said Aunt Lily made you sad too.”
Daniel froze.

His mother had connected Hannah’s resistance to Lily’s “betrayal.”
The old family story was being used again.
