Chapter 10 - THE SECOND TEST WAS WRONG TOO

Eleanor hired outside governance counsel.

Not family counsel.

Fresh eyes.

Attorney Rachel Sloan reviewed the succession process.

Her conclusion was uncomfortable.

“The test was emotionally revealing.”

Eleanor waited.

“But governance-wise, it was weak.”

Eleanor’s jaw tightened.

Rachel continued:

“You tested class behavior, not fiduciary judgment.”

Vanessa was cruel.

That mattered.

Sophie cheated.

That mattered.

But neither fact alone answered:

Who should oversee $80 million?

Who understood:

risk,

conflicts,

trust duties,

minority beneficiaries,

charitable obligations?

Eleanor had reduced succession to morality theater.

She hated hearing that.

Rachel said:

“You were looking for a good daughter.”

Then:

“You needed a good trustee.”

Different job.

That sentence changed everything.
