Chapter 5 - ELEANOR BEGINS TRANSFER

Eleanor did not immediately give Sophie everything.

She was careful.

Successor did not mean sole beneficiary.

The trust structure remained:

Vanessa — 35% economic interest.

Sophie — 35%.

Charitable family foundation — 20%.

Contingency reserve — 10%.

The successor role controlled:

meeting agenda,

certain governance votes,

trustee nominations,

strategic family representation.

Power.

Not ownership.

Still enormous.

Eleanor began bringing Sophie into meetings.

Real estate.

Logistics.

Asset allocations.

Sophie performed beautifully.

Asked smart questions.

Never interrupted.

Never demanded distributions.

Vanessa stopped attending family dinners.

Then hired attorney Lauren Pierce.

Lauren requested trust records.

Eleanor expected retaliation.

Instead, Vanessa made a strange accusation.

“Sophie cheated.”

Eleanor almost dismissed it.

Then Vanessa said:

“She knew about your maid game before you got there.”

Eleanor stared.

“How would she know?”

Vanessa smiled bitterly.

“Ask Daniel.”

That name landed wrong.

Eleanor said:

“You’re angry.”

“Yes.”

“Jealous.”

“Yes.”

“Cruel.”

Vanessa looked away.

“Yes.”

The admission surprised Eleanor.

Then Vanessa looked back.

“But I’m not lying.”
