Chapter 11 - THE HIDDEN EMAILS

The school laptop became important.
Sofia had created a draft folder inside her student email.
Not dramatic secret evidence.
Messages she was afraid to send.
Mom, Vanessa took my phone again.
Dad says I exaggerate.
I waited outside today.
Can I live with you more?
I think Vanessa reads my texts.
One draft said:
If I tell you, Dad will hate me.
Claire cried when she read it.
Mark did too.
Then one sent message appeared.
To Sofia’s counselor.
Subject:
Can I talk without parents knowing first?
The counselor replied:
Yes, unless there is a safety issue that requires action. Come by tomorrow.
Sofia never went.
The next morning Vanessa kept her home for a “mental health day.”
Mark had approved the absence after Vanessa said Sofia was exhausted.
The timing looked terrible.
Vanessa denied knowing about the counselor email.
Could anyone prove she knew?
No.
The story did not need certainty where evidence stopped.
That mattered.
Not every coincidence became conspiracy.
But the drafts established one thing clearly:
May you like
Sofia had been afraid for months.
And had tried repeatedly to reach adults.
